Approximately 895 migrants traveled to five different New Jersey train stations, including Secaucus, since the weekend, before heading to New York City, sources with knowledge of the situation told HCV.

The latest data, which indicated that 20 migrant buses have arrived since this past weekend, was submitted to local law enforcement agencies this morning and a copy was forwarded to HCV.
“This trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. NJ Transit PD is the lead agency for tracking migrants’ arrival at transportation centers. IWW will continue messaging, as necessary. OEM will assist in the event migrants need to be house[d].”
The other four transit hubs being utilized essentially as a transfer station are in Trenton, Edison, Fanwood, and New Providence.
Gov. Phil Murphy spokesman Tyler Jones said that the state has a limited role at this time since nearly all migrants are proceeding to New York City.
“Our Administration has tracked the recent arrival of a handful buses of migrant families at various NJ TRANSIT train stations,” he said in an email.
“New Jersey is primarily being used as a transit point for these families — all or nearly all of them continued with their travels en route to their final destination of New York City. We are closely coordinating with our federal and local partners on this matter, including our colleagues across the Hudson.”
The update comes after Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli announced on New Year’s Eve that four came to the train station four buses of migrants arrived at their train station the day prior, calling it the “unexpected consequences” of a New York City executive order.
According to the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management, about 397 migrants had arrived at those stations as of December 30th.
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi said in a live interview with News12 this morning that “we don’t want them in Edison” when asked about the migrant buses, adding that “we would send them right back to where they came from” if they tried to stay.
In response, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, a Democratic candidate for governor who signed a sanctuary city executive order in February 2017, said compassion is a must here, as well as that people in need should not be turned away.
“We must be smart in how we approach this and have a statewide solution but also we MUST be compassionate first here and help where we can,” he tweeted.
“Our values in Jersey City and New Jersey have never been about turning our back to people in need + we shouldn’t start now because a political sound bite is easy.”
