The governing body unanimously approved (8-0, with Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley absent) a $2,425,855 contract with Lyndhurst-based PMY Construction Corp.

“I am thrilled to announce that the revitalization of 16th Street Park is finally moving forward. I’ve been fighting for this park since before my first election in 2017, and while it has taken a long time, I am proud to say we will be getting a beautiful park in an area that has been waiting far too long to have one,” Solomon said in a statement.

The downtown councilman touted the renovations, which included a basketball court, children’s water play area, and the city’s first municipal pickleball courts, while also thanking Watterman, Rivera, and Mayor Steven Fulop and his administration for their efforts.

” … The approval of the 16th Street Park revitalization project is a testament to our collective commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents. Access to green spaces is fundamental to nurturing a healthy community and is a cause I’ve always championed,” noted Watterman.

“Witnessing this project come to life is gratifying. It underscores the importance of persistence and the collaborative efforts of all involved. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has played a role in making this vision a reality.”

The construction work on the park is expected to be completed by the end of the year

“I am excited to finally see the 16th Street Park coming along. I’ve been a long-time advocate for this project throughout my terms as councilman,” Rivera added.
