“This plan is about building for Hoboken’s future, and getting back to basics by making development work for the community. Our residents deserve a place where they can enjoy year-round recreational opportunities, and they deserve a voice in shaping what that space looks like,” he said in a statement.

“At the same time, we must take concrete steps to address affordability and make sure Hoboken remains a place where working families can live, grow, and thrive — our Recreation Center plan addresses all of those needs.”

His plan calls for involves utilizing city-owned land at 1500 Jefferson St. and entering into a public-private partnership to deliver the recreational space.

In exchange for additional allowed density and height at the site, which is located in the city’s industrial Northwest, the developer would build the shell of an indoor rec center that could then be customized by the city through an open, community-driven process.

Ramos also notes that such a project would create high paying union jobs and generate new tax revenue for the Mile Square City.

“This is the type of smart, balanced development Hoboken needs. It strengthens our community by investing in recreation, housing, affordability, jobs, and long-term financial stability. It’s a win for Hoboken residents today and for generations to come,” he concluded.

Ramos is in a six-way contest to succeed Mayor Ravi Bhalla, who is a Democratic nominee for state Assembly in the 32nd Legislative District.

His opponents are 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo, Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, former U.S. Treasury official Dini Ajmani, and perennial candidate Pat Waiters.

A candidate that accentuates the positive and has more ideas than planting weeds on corners and pushing the affordable housing away from her million dollar condo

    • Russo the son of corrupt parents
if he can’t make sense, meet with a $1300 a month of rent I don’t want them anywhere near City Hall if he can’t even handle his own finances he’s gone bankrupt and inherited $1 million beach house from his corrupt parents. Russo shouldn’t go anywhere near public money I wouldn’t let them near my piggy bank.
