The event will take place at the Five Corners Library auditorium, located at 678 Newark Ave., on Wednesday, October 30th at 11 a.m.
Before she was elected last year, Ramirez says that seminars like these are a service she used to provide as an attorney.
“I would go out into my community and give information on how to apply for a restraining order. I am proud to be able to do this now for my constituents as a state representative,” she said in a statement.
Ramirez will be giving information on the legal aspects of domestic violence, while Heather Sheppard, who is the Prevention, Education & Outreach Coordinator for WomenRising, will be discussing available resources such as counseling, housing, and crisis intervention.
“I am honored to be part of this growing movement to acknowledge, educate, and facilitate other survivors of domestic violence achieve freedom and take back their power. Together, we rise,” Sheppard added.
While October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the assemblywoman says she plans to have more of these seminars in the future.
“Domestic violence affects so many, and it does not discriminate. It is our responsibility to shine a light on this issue, raise awareness, and provide assistance to those who need it,” she added.
