The public’s help is being sought to locate a minivan involved in a fatal Jersey City hit-and-run that claimed the life of an 85-year-old man.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Fairview Avenue and Monticello Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers located a man – later identified as Mumtaz Chaudhry, 85, of Jersey City – in the area of Fairmount and Summit Avenues. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found the victim appears to have been struck by a light colored Toyota Siena.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
