“Arrest made of Jorge Rios in connection with the Homicide in Lincoln Park one week ago. Suspect is in HCPO custody now. More information to follow,” they tweeted this morning.

Rios, 33, of Jersey City, has been charged with murder, felony murder, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assault, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Cano’s body was found in the Lincoln Park lake one week ago and she was identified, with the death also ruled a homicide, four days later.

Suarez credited the Homicide Unit for the investigation and arrest, as well as the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the
investigation.

On Sunday, March 24th shortly after 7:30 a.m., the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible body found in Lincoln Park in Jersey City.

Responding Hudson County Sheriff’s Officers found the body of a female victim in the lake in Lincoln Park and members of the Jersey City Fire Department assisted in recovering her body.

The female, later identified as Carolina Cano, 45, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be homicidal violence, including strangulation and water submersion and the manner of death to be homicide.

Her death has led to some unrest in the Ward B community, prompting Freeholder Bill O’Dea (D-2) and Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey to organize a public meeting on Tuesday.

The event will be held at the Gallo Center at 6:30 p.m. to discuss what details are known about Cano’s death, as well as preventive measures to ensure something similar doesn’t happen again.
