Prosecutor: Unlicensed driver charged with death by auto for fatal Jersey City crash

An unlicensed driver was charged with death by auto for a fatal Jersey City crash that occurred early Saturday morning, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Khadija Hamilton, 27, of Jersey City, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, death by auto, as well as driving unlicensed and causing death, Suarez said in a statement.

Today shortly after 12:00 p.m., Hamilton, who was involved in the fatal crash that occurred yesterday in the area of Newark Avenue and 7th Street in Jersey City, surrendered without incident to detectives of the Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit, officials said. She was accompanied by her attorney.

The fatal crash occurred early Saturday morning. Responding Jersey City police found a
female victim in the backseat of the crashed 2000 Honda Accord. The victim was identified as Khalla Nguyen, 24, of Jersey City, authorities said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The initial investigation showed that the car was traveling east on Newark Avenue when it made contact with a metal guardrail. The car came to a stop in the middle of Newark Avenue, near 7th Street, police said.

The Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit is continuing to investigate this incident.
