“Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and @JCPoliceDept investigating a fatal shooting in the area of New Heckman Drive in #JerseyCity. Three people were shot, one fatally. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted this morning.

No other details were immediately available regarding the incident, though the social media post appears to push back against early morning reports that a fatal shooting occurred in Bayonne.

New Heckman Drive, depending on the exact address, is just a block or two away from Bayonne’s Mercer Park.

Bayonne Police Lt. Eric Amato said this afternoon that “an individual from the scene of the shooting in Jersey City” drove one of the victims to the satellite office of the Jersey City Medical Center on East 24th Street in Bayonne, and as a result, police responded to the medical facility.

Furthermore, Jersey City spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione indicated that the shooting took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Union Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

Two of the victims, 20 and 27 years old, respectively, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were treated at a local hospital, she added.
