Police: Bayonne man, 33, arrested for assaulting man, 81, with fiberglass object at a traffic light

A 33-year-old Bayonne man has been arrested for assaulting an 81-year-old man at a fiberglass object at a traffic light last week, police said.

Luis Villa, 33, of Bayonne, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Villa was taken into custody at about 9:30 a.m. yesterday from his residence after being identified as the actor of an aggravated assault (road rage) incident reported on October 5th at around 10:48 a.m.

At that time, the 81-year-old man, of Jersey City, reports that while he was seated in his vehicle and stopped at a traffic light in the area of Hook Road and Rt. 440, he became involved in a verbal altercation with the driver of a vehicle stopped behind him.

The altercation turned physical after the driver of the second car retrieved a fiberglass object from the trunk of his vehicle and proceeded to strike the victim in the head and face with it through the victim’s opened driver’s door window.

The actor then fled the area. The victim suffered injuries to his left eye and face and was treated at an area hospital. An intense and thorough investigation was initiated by the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau which led to Villa being identified as the actor.

A warrant for his arrest was issued and executed at his residence where detective’s also recovered the vehicle he was utilizing during the road rage incident, authorities said.
