Prosecutor: North Bergen man, 19, charged with sexually assaulting girl, 11

A 19-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl when the victim, who is known to the defendant, was 11 years old, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Friday, February 9th members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Edgar Rompich-Ramos, 19, of North Bergen, on charges relating to sex crimes committed on a juvenile female, Suarez said in a statement.

The crimes occurred in a North Bergen residence on various dates in 2023 when the victim was 11 years old. The victim is known to the defendant.

Rompich-Ramos is charged with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child/facilitating child sex abuse material, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus without incident. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

The State has filed a motion for detention in this matter, which is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 14th.

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest.
