On Thursday, at approximately 12:10 p.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Jersey City woman on charges that included
aggravated sexual assault involving a 14-year-old juvenile male, Suarez said in a statement.

Elyse Castillo, 45, was arrested at approximately 12:10 p.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office in
Jersey City.

She was arrested without incident and charged with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, along with other third- and fourth-degree crimes, authorities said.

Castillo is employed as a substitute teacher by the Jersey City Board of Education and the last day she reported to work was in November 2018, officials said.

The charges involve crimes that allegedly occurred between June 2018 and August 2019 in the home of the defendant on Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City.

Castillo was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending her first appearance and the prosecutor’s office has filed a motion for pretrial detention.

A hearing is currently scheduled for Thursday, September 5th.

Additionally, Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the investigation and arrest.
