A Jersey City man has been charged with a fatal shooting that caused the victim to crash his car into a tree back in May, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced.

Yesterday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a 28-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in May, Mello said in a statement.
Gerard Rosario, of Jersey City, is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess a firearm.
He was arrested on 38th Street in Union City and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street.
Responding officers located an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree on Merritt Street. The unresponsive man – later identified as Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth – was discovered with a gunshot wound to the neck.
He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m.
Mello credited the Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the arrest.
