Patrick Gapasin, 45, of Jersey City, is charged with aggravated assault and assault by auto, Suarez said in a statement. He was arrested at his residence and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
On Sunday, January 22nd, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision in the area of Routes 1 and 9 and Sip Avenue.
Upon arrival, responding officers located two vehicles – a Honda Accord operated by a 60-year-old Jersey City man and an Infinity Q60 operated by Gapasin – with heavy damage.
Both drivers were transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The 60-year-old driver suffered multiple serious injuries.
The investigation found Gapasin was traveling north on Routes 1 and 9 at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with the Honda Accord at the Sip Avenue intersection.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
