Members of the HCPO’s Homicide Unit arrested Kenyowa Pinkney, 27, of Jersey City just after 11 a.m. today after he had turned himself in to authorities.

Pinkney is charged with murder, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

Smith, 23, was gunned down on Martin Luther King Drive and Myrtle Avenue on Monday, April 6. It was the fourth fatal shooting in the city in less than a weeks time.

He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center shortly after being found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He died later that day.

Pinkney’s arrest marks the third arrest of a Jersey City resident connected to one of the four homicides reported last week.

On Wednesday, the HCPO’s Homicide Unit arrested and charged Darby Shirden and Shaquan Rush, both 20 and from Jersey City, in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Stephanie Jacques – as well as the attempted murder of an 18-year-old man.

Two of the four shooting deaths remain unsolved.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of 25-year-old Damone Smith, gunned down near the intersection of Cator and Rose Avenues on March 31st.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made in connection with Saturday’s fatal shooting of 21-year-old Akim Ward.
