Prosecutor: 17-year-old Lincoln High School student fatally shot in Jersey City

A 17-year-old Lincoln High School student was fatally shot in Jersey City late last night, with a second victim also shot but suffering only minor injuries, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Friday, October 26th, at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 76 Brinkerhoff St. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive female victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body, Suarez said in a statement.

The victim, identified as Jade Saunders, 17, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at the
scene.

The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

A second victim who suffered non-life threatening injuries was also found at the scene. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center. He was treated and released earlier today, officials said.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the
Jersey City Police Department.

No arrests have been made at this time.
