Police seeking public’s help to identify man wanted for destroying crucifix at Bayonne church

The Bayonne Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a man wanted for destroying a crucifix at a local church last week.

On Wednesday, September 25th at approximately 8:45 p.m., a white or light-skinned Hispanic man, standing between five-feet eight and five-feet 10 inches tall, was observed pulling a crucifix statue out of the ground and smashing it on the sidewalk, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

The suspect is also described as being 18 to 25 years old and was also wearing a blue t-shirt and blue denim shorts at the time of the incident, as well as having combed over dark hair, officials said.

The incident occurred on the 47th Street side of St. Vincent de Paul Church, located at 979 Avenue C, authorities said.
