Curtis A. Jones, 42, of Newark, was charged with burglary and theft yesterday, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Jones was taken into custody at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday after officers responded to LabCorp, located at 209 Lefante Way, on a report of a man fleeing the facility after stealing a purse.

According to the 18-year-old female victim (a LabCorp employee), Jones entered the business and proceeded to the rear of the facility without checking in at the receptionist desk.

Jones then briefly walked into the employee lounge area and quickly left the facility. The
victim then entered the lounge to investigate his actions and realized that her wallet had been removed from her purse, police said.

She immediately exited the facility and located Jones in the parking lot where she confronted him and recorded the confrontation on her phone.

As a result, she was able to regain possession of her wallet from Jones and determined nothing had been removed from it, officials said.

At that time, she located a police officer in the area and reported the incident. Jones was located outside of TJ Maxx and, after being positively identified, was placed under arrest, authorities said.
