Yesterday at approximately 12:26 a.m., the West New York Police Department notified the Guttenberg PD that their officers were in the area of 64th Street and Bergenline Avenue, with a man who reported that he was beaten and robbed of his scooter, Ramadanovic said in a statement.

Members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division immediately responded to the intersection of at 68th Street and Bergenline Avenue and received a description of the suspect and the scooter taken from the victim.

While speaking with the victim, officers observed multiple lacerations on the victim’s body and face. The victim was also missing a part of his tooth as the result of the incident.

As West New York EMS were beginning to evaluate the victim, detectives and officers of the West New York PD informed us that they located a man, matching the suspect’s description, who had a scooter in his possession and blood on his clothing.

During the remainder of the investigation, the victim was able to positively identify the suspect as the individual who committed the robbery, which was then confirmed via our CCTV surveillance cameras from the intersection of 68th Street and Bergenline Avenue.

As the result of this joint investigation with the West New York PD, Guttenberg officers arrested Ariel Sandoval-Paulino, 36, of North Bergen, for robbery and disorderly conduct.

He was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Sandoval-Paulino was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

“I would like to thank my officers for a job well done and acknowledge the efforts of the detectives and officers of the West New York Police Department for their assistance with this investigation. Their efforts to assist our victim and our agency with this incident led to the speedy apprehension of a violent individual who caused our victim some serious injuries,” added Police Chief Frank Pelaez.

“To the residents of Guttenberg, rest assured that the Guttenberg Police Department, along with all of our surrounding law enforcement partners, are always working together to ensure that our communities are safe and that individuals who threaten that safety are successfully apprehended.”
