Shawn Ellerson, 33, of Jersey City, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to turn over CDS to law enforcement, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and driving with an expired license, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

At about 6:30 p.m. yesterday, Port Authority Police Officer Mike Fusco was on duty at the Lincoln Tunnel entrance in Weehawken monitoring registrations as part of a toll evasion initiative, officials said.

A computer check showed that Ellerson, the registered owner of a 2015 gray Chrysler 200, had an expired driver’s license and was therefore pulled over, authorities said.

Fusco noted that the driver appeared nervous and was fidgeting before stepping out of the Chrysler. Shortly thereafter, the officer noted that the driver dropped a white package wrapped in rubber bands to the ground, police said.

As a result, Ellerson placed his foot over the bag in an attempt to hide it. The officer determined that the package was contained suspected heroin and the man was placed under arrest, officials said.

According to authorities, drug paraphernalia, a straw, was also found on his person.
