UPDATED: Authorities investigating fatal shooting in Jersey City, first Hudson County killing in 2022

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Jersey City this afternoon, the first Hudson County killing in 2022.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and JCPD are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this afternoon in the area of Crescent and Belmont Avenues in Jersey City. More to follow,” the HCPO tweeted.

At 7:26 p.m. this evening, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.

This afternoon at approximately 12:28 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to a shooting in the area of 32 Belmont Ave. Responding officers found a man – later identified as Rasheen Bostick, 32 – with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso.

He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:55 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
