A man was charged with criminal sexual contact after allegedly grabbing a woman’s buttocks while inside an elevator in Hoboken, police said.

Jose Melendez, 39, of Belleville, was charged with criminal sexual contact on Wednesday, according to Police Det. Sgt. Edgardo Cruz.
Yesterday around 3:24 p.m., Melendez was inside of an elevator at 311 13th St. when he grabbed a woman by the buttocks. She got off the elevator when he attempted to grab her again, officials said.
The victim, who did not suffer any injuries, notified police of the incident and Melendez was later found inside the building and arrested, authorities said.
Melendez was issued a $17,500 bail, which he was not able to post before being transported to Hudson County jail, police said.
