Richard Diaz, 44, who is homeless, was charged with theft of movable property, according to Police Det. Lt. Edgardo Cruz.

Yesterday around 2:38 p.m., Police Officers Dominick Allegretta and Orlando Moctezuma were dispatched to the area of 6th and Washington Streets regarding an incident that occurred the day prior.

While speaking with the victim and a friend, it was explained that the defendant, who was still on scene, was involved in stealing a package from the victim, authorities said.

This package was taken from an address on the 900th block of Bloomfield Street with a value of over $200, officials said.

After investigating further, it was determined that Diaz was indeed involved and placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and later remanded to the Hudson county Rehabilitation Center, police said.
