On Friday, September 22nd, a female victim walked into the Guttenberg Police Department to report that she was the victim of a home invasion, according to Police Sgt. Aleksandar Ramadanovic.

The victim was able to provide video surveillance footage from inside of her apartment, showing a male walking through her apartment and taking various belongings, valued over $3,500.

The victim also informed us that during the home invasion, both she and her daughter were asleep in a locked bedroom.

Immediately, officers of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division and detectives of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the area of 68th Street and Hudson Avenue to continue the investigation.

After recovering video surveillance footage from inside of the victim’s apartment and various locations near the crime-scene, officers and detectives discovered that while one suspect was inside of the victim’s apartment, a second was outside of the victim’s building, acting as a look out.

Once the first suspect exited the apartment building, he and suspect two are observed meeting and walking into West New York.

During the course of this investigation, detectives were able to quickly identify suspect two, Albert A. Ayala, 34, of Guttenberg. A short time after he was identified, officers and detectives observed him walking near the crime-scene and were able to successfully place him under arrest.

At the Guttenberg Police Department’s headquarters, Ayala was charged with receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary, and conspiracy to commit theft.

Upon the completion of his arrest processing, he was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

As the result of this investigation, suspect one was also identified, but remains unapprehended at this time. This investigation remains ongoing.
