Members of the law enforcement community came out strong for the funeral of Hudson County Sheriff’s Office Lt,./SWAT Commander Matt Vogel earlier this week after passing away due to COVID-19 complications last month.

Vogel, 49, served as a Hudson County Sheriff’s officer for 22 years and was laid to rest on Tuesday, January 4th in Clifton at Crest Haven Cemetery after services were held at Vainieri Funeral Home in North Bergen. He died on December 27th.

“It was heartwarming to see the incredible turnout for Lieutenant Vogel and his family after his tragic passing last week,” Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said in a statement.

“Lieutenant Vogel touched so many lives throughout his career in law enforcement and the legacy he left behind will never be forgotten.”

Vogel had been with the HCSO since September 1999 and had been a member of the North Bergen Volunteer First Aid Squad for about a decade prior to that, according to his LinkedIn page.

His was promoted to sergeant in April 2011 and then lieutenant in February 2017, serving as the SWAT team leader since June 2003.
