The teen, 17, of Bayonne, was charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of certain bullets, Amato said.

On Sunday, officers responded to the area of 51st Street and Avenue C on a report of a group of three men possibly in possession of a handgun.

A description of the trio was provided to the officers, depicting one person displaying a bulge in the area of his waistband. Responding officers located the three in the area of 48th Street and Broadway and conducted an investigation.

The investigation led to the recovery of a .38 caliber revolver from the juvenile and the handgun was loaded with five rounds.

A further search incident to arrest led to the recovery of an additional two rounds and further inspection of all seven recovered rounds indicated that five of them were hollow point bullets, authorities said.
