Deonte Borders, 26, of Bayonne, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Borders was taken into custody at around 1:08 p.m. on Friday in the area of West 47th Street. Officers responded to the intersection of 16th Street and Broadway on a report of dispute between two individuals where Borders, brandished a handgun, authorities said.

Upon arrival, officers met with the 36-year-old male victim who advised that, while engaged in an argument with Borders, he lifted his shirt and displayed a handgun that was
tucked in his waistband while threatening to shoot the victim, officials said.

In order to prevent the confrontation from escalating, the victim retreated into his home and Borders left the scene.

After an on-scene investigation, officers were able to determine the current location of Borders to be on West 47th Street. Officers responded there and met with Borders
and, after an investigation, placed Borders under arrest, police said.

No weapon was ever recovered, authorities said.
