Ryan Moody, 20, Jason Cruz, 21, and Steven Custodio, 21, all of Bayonne, were each charged with aggravated assault, while Custodio was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to Police Capt. Janine Foy.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 28th around 1:51 a.m. near the intersection of 53rd Street and Avenue C. The victims, one 37 years old, the other 41, were unchaining their bicycles when the three younger men began punching and kicking them, officials said.

Custodio was the individual who choked the 37-year-old victim with a bicycle chain, prompting the possession of a weapon charge, authorities said.

That victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the Bayonne Medical Center, while the 41-year-old victim refused medical attention. The reason for the conflict is unknown, police said.
