Early Sunday morning around 1:32 a.m., officers responded to shots fired in the area of 17th Street & Avenue C, according to Police Capt. Janine Foy.

One victim, a 22-year-old Jersey City resident, was found to have been shot three times: once in the arm and twice in the torso. The victim said the incident occurred in the area of 17th Street west of Broadway, authorities said.

He was then treated at the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The shooter, described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, fled towards Broadway. Three .40 caliber bullet shell casings were recovered from the scene and the incident remains under investigation, officials said.
