Police: 21-year-old Guttenberg man arrested for pulling knife during street fight

A 21-year-old Guttenberg man was arrested for pulling a knife during a street fight on Monday afternoon, Police Lt. Aleksandar Ramadanovic announced.

On August 4th at approximately 3:36 p.m., members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to a report of a fight involving a knife near Bergenline Avenue and 68th Street, authorities said.

As the result of their on-scene investigation, officers and detectives arrested Danilo J. Martinez-Lopez, 21, of Guttenberg, for two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, hindering apprehension, and disorderly conduct.

Martinez-Lopez was then transported to the Guttenberg PD for his arrest processing. At police headquarters, it was also uncovered that he had an active warrant issued by the West New York Municipal Court.

Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Martinez-Lopez was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Facility. At this time, this investigation remains active and additional criminal charges may follow.

“I want to thank the members of the Guttenberg Police Department who quickly responded to this fight before someone was gravely injured,” noted Police Chief Frank Pelaez.”

“This type of violence has no place in any community. The Guttenberg Police Department will continue to pursue these violent offenders and ensure they are charged accordingly.”
