With September 11th just around the corner, three charitable foundations have come together to host a beefsteak to honor two North Bergen heroes.

Gregg Natosi, who is on the committee for the Chris Amoroso Foundation, provided some context on the revered fallen Port Authority police officer whose heroic efforts from September 11th, 2001 are well documented.

“Chris Amoroso was a North Bergen graduate, also a Port Authority police officer who was working out at the Twin Towers on September 11th and unfortunately, tragically, perished when one of the buildings collapsed,” he explained during a sit down interview.

” … One of our main slogans or mottos is always to ‘never forget.’ We, Chris’ friends and family, we’re going to continue to honor him in that way and continue to share Chris’ story with everyone, not just North Bergen, but everyone.”

Wayne Giordano, another North Bergen native who also got to know Amoroso through sports programs growing up, has been at the helm of the Gio 62 Foundation: a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping the memory of his brother, Anthony Giordano, alive for generations to come.

Gio 62 has been active since 1989 and has given out over $100,000 in scholarships.

“My brother was a graduate of North Bergen High School, he perished six months after he graduated in a construction accident and one year after he died, we developed a foundation and our first scholarship was $500 to a high school senior from North Bergen.

According to Natosi, the Amoroso Foundation has followed suit in giving out scholarships since 2007.

“It’s an honor to give that scholarship out in Chris’ name,” Natosi added.

Furthermore, Natosi thanked Guttenberg Mayor Wayne Zitt, state Senator (D-32)/North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco, North Bergen Commissioner Hugo Cabrera and Freeholder Chair Anthony Vainieri (D-8) for their continued support.

Chopper 2002, another local non-profit, will join Gio 62 and the Amoroso Foundation in hosting a beefsteak on September 11th at the Hasbrouck Heights VFW.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7 p.m., are $65 and includes dinner, beer, wine, soda and a comedy show.
