“I am saddened to hear about the passing of U.S Senator John McCain this evening. The residents of Arizona and the Nation have lost a great leader. My sympathies go out to his wife Cindy and their children during this difficult time,” Sires said in a statement.

“Senator McCain was a champion for human rights and believed that everyone should have the chance to realize their potential to the fullest. The Senator served his country in the U.S Navy with great distinction during the Vietnam War. John’s ability to work with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle is why his legacy will live on for many generations to come.”

About an hour ago, multiple media outlets reported that McCain, a 2008 presidential candidate, had passed away tonight, less than a day after his family revealed that he would be ceasing treatment for brain cancer.
