On Friday, June 27th, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced Oscar Ramirez, 33, to 24 years in New Jersey State Prison for a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred in North Bergen six years ago.

Ramirez, of North Bergen, previously pled guilty to one count of kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. He was sentenced to 24 years in New Jersey State Prison for the kidnapping charge, which will run concurrent to an 18 year sentence for aggravated sexual assault.

The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, Megan’s Law Registration and parole supervision for life.

On October 26, 2019, a 23-year-old female victim was approached by an unknown man – later identified as Ramirez – while walking on 46th Street in North Bergen.

Ramirez grabbed the female victim from behind, threatened her with a sharp object, and then sexually assaulted her at the Grove Church Cemetery in North Bergen.

The State was represented at sentencing by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Baginski.

Part of the reason the sentencing took some time was because the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in November 2022 to remand the case to the lower court over whether of not the alleged victim should have to disclose her home address, as HCV first reported.
