“North Bergen Housing Authority Executive Director Gerald Sanzari resigned from his position on Friday due to personal health reasons,” spokesman Nick Bond said following an inquiry asking if Sanzari resigned due to a pending law enforcement investigation.
“The housing authority is not aware of any active law enforcement investigation at this time. NBHA will be appointing an interim executive director in the near future and our staff is working to ensure that all services and functions continue to be fulfilled during the transition. Due to the fact that this is a personnel matter we will have no further comment.”
Sanzari, 63, was earning a salary of $190,000, receiving a $65,000 raise over the course of his nearly decade long tenure with the federally subsidized agency, public records show.
He also left his job as the secretary for the North Bergen Renaissance Corporation, where he earned $48,000 annually, according to the entity’s 2023 tax return.
Source familiar with the situation, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, said Sanzari decided to step down following an informal request from the seven-member NBHA Board of Commissioners.
He is also a retired North Bergen deputy chief and earns a $120,000 pension, according to the New Jersey Police and Fireman’s Retirement System.
Sad that you rely on people to help the residents of North Bergen and threading with no questions answered. I am a resident who has asked for help many times from the NB Housing even S far as losing my house
As was turned away .
I work as a certified medical assistant for a cardiologist and my boyfriend works for the town of NB and we are forced to live in an apartment that we cannot afford.
Another hudson County corrupt employee, like all of them.
Funny how many of the these HHA official have umm … legal issues
Jerrey is a good man. We’ve been friends since grammar school. He cares and he is not the kind of person to do anything wrong. He is a standup person. I wish him the best in his retirement.
