The Township of North Bergen distributed over 1,000 free backpacks and school supplies at an annual giveaway at their recreation center on Wednesday.

Children selected their own backpacks from a wide variety of styles, then were able to fill it with free supplies to begin the school year.
State Senator (D-32)/Mayor Nick Sacco and the township commissioners helped to hand out the supplies, along with Hudson County Commissioner Robert Baselice (D-8).
The supplies distributed included notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, highlighters, crayons, glue sticks, erasers, scissors, school uniforms, and hand sanitizer.
The North Bergen Health Department was also present, giving out wellness information and free test kits.
The yearly event is organized and presented by Sacco and NB C.A.R.E.S. for the benefit of local families in need, with the support of the North Bergen Recreation Department, North Bergen Police Department, and numerous volunteers.
