At approximately 2:15 a.m. this morning, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of the Routes 1 and 9 North ramp on Route 139 West, Suarez said in a statement.

Upon arrival, responding officers located a tractor trailer and a 2018 Audi passenger vehicle that had been involved in a collision. The Audi was found on its roof with extensive damage.

The male driver of the Audi and two passengers were transported to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services. A female passenger, tentatively identified as a 21-year-old from Bloomfield, was pronounced dead at approximately 2:54 a.m.

The 22-year-old male driver from Newark and a 23-year-old male passenger from Newark remain at JCMC with non-life-threatening injuries. The 53-year-old male driver of the tractor trailer, who remained at the scene, was not injured in the collision.

During the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Audi was issued a motor vehicle summons by the responding JCPD officers.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
