Newport Liberty Half Marathon & 5K set for Saturday, prepare for street closures

The Newport Liberty Half Marathon & 5K is set for Saturday from 6 a.m. through 2 p.m., so residents are urged to prepare for street closures and parking restrictions.

The 13.1-mile course spans from Newport Green Park to Liberty State Park. According to NYC Runs, no parking zones will go into effect on Friday, September 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

Local roads, ranging from 18th Street through North Boulevard, may be closed or have limited vehicle and/or pedestrian access the next day.

“Starting and finishing in the Newport neighborhood of Jersey City, the half marathon course will take you on a tour of historic Jersey City and will feature world-class views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the stunning Manhattan Skyline,” their website says.

“You’ll see a little less on the 5K course, but what you get will have you coming back for more. This fast, flat courses are ideal for beating your PR and Newport Green is perfect for an epic post-race celebration with plenty of refreshments, music and more!”

Note that the 5k is already sold out so only entrants interested in the half marathon should sign up here.
