Newark teen, Jersey City man charged for the murder of Michael Bowers

A Newark teen and a Jersey City man have been arrested for the murder of Michael Bowers, a 34-year-old Jersey City man who was gunned down on November 3.

Khalil Holmes, 20, of Jersey City, and the juvenile, 16, of Newark, have both been charged with murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm and Conspiracy to commit murder, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez

Bail for Holmes has been set at $1,000,000, cash only.

On November 3, 2016, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched On November 3, 2016, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to Fulton Avenue on a report of shots fired, authorities said.

Upon arrival, officers found one male victim laying on the sidewalk in front of 208 Fulton Ave. The victim was later identified as Bowers, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene and then transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:45 p.m., officials said.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
