A new political action committee, StreetsPAC NJ, is seeking to champion active transportation and Vision Zero initiatives statewide and will be involved with the Jersey City municipal elections, Executive Director Kevin Bing announced.

“Our goal is simple: to make sure that candidates for public office understand that the lives of pedestrians, cyclists, and all road users are a top priority for New Jersey voters,” Bing said in a statement.
“We are actively looking to build our political base and empower residents to demand a future where our streets are safe for everyone.”
In addition to all Jersey City municipal candidates being sent a survey for the back, gubernatorial candidates Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican nominee, and U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11), the Democratic nominee, were contacted as well, according to Bing.
The PAC is being run by a five-person board: Bing, Better Block New Jersey Founder Eric Allen Connor, Glenn Mcananama, Bike JC President Ayla Schermer, Traffic Reform Warriors member Ashley Swiggett, and George Zalepa.
“For too long, the political conversation in New Jersey has been dominated by a car-centric mindset, leading to a tragic and preventable toll on our streets,” the PAC said in a statement.
“The only way to truly achieve Vision Zero—the goal of eliminating all traffic deaths and serious injuries—is by building genuine political support for policies and infrastructure that put people first. StreetsPAC NJ will be a crucial vehicle for this change.”
Bing told HCV that the PAC currently has about $3,000, but the effort remains in its infancy and efforts will be ramping up in the coming weeks.
