Hilda Roque, the mother of West New York Mayor Felix Roque, passed away early this morning after dealing with a multitude of health issues in recent weeks.

Hilda Roque had been receiving care at the Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, with Felix Roque telling Hudson County View he was “extremely blessed” that she lived through Election Day after she had stopped breathing.

Town spokesman Pablo Fonseca said that the family will not be having a funeral for Hilda Roque, but a large mass is being prepared for Friday.

Roque decisively won re-election on May 12, with his entire slate of five candidates getting elected to the office of commissioner.

The past week has been filled with hardship for the Roque family, as the mayor was indicted by the state Attorney General’s Office on June 9 for allegedly participating in a $250,000 bribery/kickback scheme.

His attorney in the matter, Christopher D. Adams, almost immediately called the indictment “ridiculously false charges.”

Hudson County View sends our deepest condolences to the Roque family during this difficult time.

  1. Thanks for reporting this story, John Heinis, and for extending simpathies to The Roque family. May all of us in The Loyal Opposition allow privacy to the Roque family at this time and show the decency of allowing ample time for their Grieving before picking up with politics.

  2. On behalf of the Martell family, I want to give the deepest condolences to Mayor Roque, and his family for their loss, as I know all too well the pain of losing your mother. As a matter of fact, I will never forget the fact that Mayor Roque was one of the first people that called me to offer his condolences.

I hope he and his family know, politics, have no place in my heart or mind during these very sad times! I am here for him and his family should he or any of his family members need anything from me or our family.

I know, God will welcome his Mom with open Arms.

    Ralph Martell
