“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a male on College Street. This is an activate investigation and additional information will be released as available,” the HCPO tweeted at 3:26 a.m.

In March, a 33-year-old man was fatally shot on Jordan Avenue and then a 25-year-old man was gunned down near the intersection of Central Avenue and Bowers Street earlier this month.

At 2:36 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided more details.

Just after 12:40 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Audubon Avenue and College Street. Responding officers located an extensive crime scene.

An unresponsive man – later identified as David Jones, 24, of Jersey City – was located at 1 College St. with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:35 a.m.

A second individual, a 23-year-old Jersey City man, was located nearby with an apparent gunshot wound to an upper extremity. He is being treated for an injury that is not considered life-threatening at this time.

The HCPO Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances of this case.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the HCPO at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.

All information will be kept confidential.
