The eight-bout card gave up-and-coming boxers the opportunity to slug it out in front of friends, family and fight fans alike as the pugilists looked to make a name for themselves.
Newark’s Eddie Edmond (4-4-2) won a split decision over North Bergen’s Edson Jose Ortiz (1-2) in a middleweight matchup (160 pounds) where both competitors came to scrap.
Later in a super lightweight contest (140 pounds) Jersey City’s Brayon Rendon (2-0) overwhelmed Abdel Vera (0-1), who was making his professional debut, with his hand speed and punching power – dropping him with a body shot in the second round.
While he couldn’t score the finish, he never took his foot off the gas in this one.
Also on the undercard, Tyquan Boyd (1-0) scored a third round TKO over Wilfredo Ceballos (0-1) in a lightweight contest (135 pounds), while Paterson’s Caleb Hernandez (2-0) stopped Jordan Rosario (0-1) in the second round of their welterweight affair.
In the main event of the evening, after battling to a draw at the Jersey City Armory in March, Tyrone Luckey (7-4-2) scored a decision victory over Jersey City’s Jose Ortiz.
Additionally, LGM Promotions’ Nick Jayme honored Cotto, a four-division, five-time world champion, with a plaque, portrait and a custom Puerto Rico-themed cell phone.
Furthermore, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, District 2 Freeholder Bill O’Dea and Jersey City Council President Rolando Lavarro were a few of the officials who stopped in for the fights.
