LETTER: Vote for Liz Urtecho in the 5th Ward council race in Hoboken

19

In a letter to the editor, Hoboken resident Peg Dardenne explains why 5th Ward voters should elect Liz Urtecho next month.

Dear Editor,

I’d like to share a personal story about Liz Urtecho, candidate for Hoboken City Council, that demonstrates her leadership and commitment to the residents of the 5th Ward.

Mine has been a quality-of-life issue, one pillar of Liz’s platform.

For years I’ve had to cope with broken windows in my unit caused by improper use of the Columbus Park basketball court. Tennis players practice hitting there, often with such force—and inaccuracy—that they damage personal property.

I finally reached out to Liz last summer for suggestions on who I should contact for help.

Long story short, she worked with Hudson County to get action. There are now four signs prominently posted warning that the court is for basketball only.

This may seem like a small thing to some. But to me it’s an important example of how Liz can make positive change—even though she’s not yet in elected office.

My experience showed me what Liz is really made of. We need her as our 5th Ward advocate.

Peg Dardenne
Hoboken resident

  1. Vote for Philip and for Ravi for Congress.
Vote for Liz and vote for real 5th Ward representation.

Although I lived downtown with my husband, we need a change.

Vote for Liz in the 5th!

  2. Cohen and Co got sideswiped by Bhalla announcing that he was considering a run for Congress. The public should see this for what it is – a house of cards about to crumble. Who, besides Quintero, has publicly endorsed Bhalla for Congress? Think about the MESS he is prepared to leave behind. We win or lose based on how we pass the baton from one regime to another and this one to going to get botched. The public needs to take control here, vote out Cohen and begin the process of installing a more transparent and public – oriented City Council. Liz Urtecho can help make that happen- Phil Cohen has already proven that he cannot.

  3. I can’t support the blatant discrimination against our Hispanic community from Ravi and Phil. First they ousted Anette and now Bobby. White boomers trying to keep their privilege should be booted from office.

    • She’s not anti-weed. Not one peep from her group about Terrapin. It looks like she’s actually against corruption and the disregard for our laws (laws passed by the ENITRE city council..including Phil!).

  4. Yep, fact, she is Lantinx
But now you know why Ravii hates her…
Ravi hates Latnx Women in higher office

Hates Chaprro, Menendez and Now Urteccho

    • This has got to be the most desperate identity reach for someone without a record. This woman has lived in Hoboken for over 30 years and has never ventured outside her brownstone, private school, wealthy white bubble until recreational cannabis hit the scene. NIMBY by default. Latinx? Too funny. Start by learning how to spell Spanish surnames.

      • True, kind of silly to play this identity card. So, how bout we just say Liz has more integrity and guts than Cohen has ever shown- and leave it at that. Also, this anit cannabis talking point is bunk. So, how bout we say “anti cannabis within 250 feet of a school?”
This administration has been in part built and supported by deception – has to stop.

      • How about that display by Frown Face Decker and Bratty mean girl /Cantor Inter Myers…?

Talk about never leaving their homes?

Getting a bogus endorsement from a washed up furniture salesman and a fake liberal zoning board and yacht owner Amy isn’t exactly community participation

    • Urtecho is Peruvian you moron

Latino refers to geography. Specifically, to Latin America, to people from the Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic), South America (Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, etc.) and Central America (Honduras, Costa Rica, etc.) In the U.S.

      • Thank you for showing the kind of person who supports this nobody. When presented with facts, you resort to insults and then desperately try to show how smart you are. Keep representing. We see you.

  5. Phil, the nervous little suck up has voted with Bhalla Cartel 99.9999% of the time, which means he votes against ALL OF US in The Black, Brown and Hispanic Community….

Send Phil and Ravi to DC.

  6. Liz is a woman, and therefore I am voting for her because – like Mayor Emily – she is also a victim. She’s also a minority and therefore a victim too.

Stupid Ravi: he doesn’t want to fight racism, he wants “racism” to “fight.” So when he can’t find any, he Bob Menendez’s (manufactures) it.

When you haven’t delivered anything and are only using Hoboken for your own career aspirations, you pull every trick to get your team elected.

Mark my words, Hoboken: the community center / cafe in NW Park that is still incomplete (despite two “grand openings”), now over a year late, and God only knows how much over the $90M budget, will magically open just before the election to host a Phil Cohen wank-a-thon.

  7. I fixed it for you: “For years we’ve had to cope with less park space and shadows in the playground all day caused by the improper location of a luxury condo building that infringes on the use of the Columbus Park basketball court.”
You must be new here. The park was there first. The condo developer built over the property line and took park space away from the public. Your friend Liz was not to be found when that happened. She’s now looking for social status as a councilwoman and needs to build a record to run on, so she made a phone call to the county and asked for a sign. Desperate move.

    • You mean the luxury condo building called Roberts Court built by former Mayor David Roberts ?
Mayor Roberts also presided over the his City Council team that so mismanaged Hoboken’s finances that the State of NJ had to take over.
Cohen was a supporter of Roberts till he found himself a better deal.

      • Dave Roberts did not build Roberts Court- It was Built by Caulfield Family and Named after their Son ROBERT. You moron

James Place 818 Jefferson Named for James Caulfield
Roberts Court named after Robert Caulfield.

Dave Roberts is not a developer

Team Bhalla – Lies from here to Rhode Island!
