Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my deep concern and urgent plea regarding the impending loss of the A&C bus line, a vital lifeline for residents of Jersey City’s West Side and Greenville neighborhoods.

As a longtime resident and an advocate for accessible mass transit, I am here to support preserving this essential service.

My name is Maureen Gallagher, and I have been a proud resident of the West Side, and resident community support person since the pandemic.

During this time the A&C bus line has been my link to Journal Square, the PATH hub so I can get to and from work in NYC. I rely on this bus service every day to reach the PATH train, my workplace, and other crucial destinations.

The impending discontinuation of the A&C bus line on October 31st is upsetting and disruptive to me and countless individuals with whom I ride.

The A&C bus line plays a crucial role in our neighborhood’s accessibility and connectivity. It serves as a lifeline for students (Saint Peter’s University, Hudson Catholic, NJCU, daycares and more), seniors, and individuals without personal vehicles, ensuring that they can access educational institutions, healthcare facilities, jobs and even necessities like groceries.

Removing this service would not only isolate residents but also increase traffic congestion and environmental stress, as more people might resort to using private cars due to the lack of reliable public transportation options.

I am appealing to our city officials, particularly the Mayor and City Council, to recognize the significance of the A&C bus line to our community and take decisive action to preserve it.

I implore them to use their political influence and leverage to ensure the continuity of this service. Furthermore, I call upon NJ Transit to step up and consider adopting these bus lines, given their undeniable importance to our neighborhood’s well-being.

The time to act is now. Our community deserves accessible and dependable public transportation options, and the preservation of the A&C bus line is an essential step towards achieving this goal.

I urge all concerned residents to join me in advocating for the continuation of this vital service.

Sincerely,

Maureen Gallagher
Jersey City resident
