“CarePoint and BMC Hospital LLC are on the verge of signing an agreement for the sale of Bayonne Medical Center,” CarePoint said in a statement.
“The parties have updated the [New Jersey] Department of Health concerning the status of their discussions and expect to immediately move forward with the requisite approvals.”
Back in March, the two parties announced that they had signed a letter of intent that would allow BMC Hospital LLC to takeover the BMC.
BMC Hospital LLC is a joint venture by Wayne Hatami, Anthony Degradi, Gregg Rock, and Feliks Kogan, three of the four men who own Surgicore: six surgical centers that operate in different parts of New York and New Jersey. Â
They could not be immediately reached for comment on Tuesday.
Recently, the future of CarePoint’s three Hudson County hospitals: Christ Hospital, the Hoboken University Medical Center, and the BMC has appeared uncertain due to a longstanding financial dispute with Alaris Health owner Avery Eisenreich.
Eisenreich owns 100 percent of the BMC property (the land the hospital sits on); 70 percent of the property – along with 25 percent of the business at the HUMC – and a 25 percent stake in the Christ Hospital business and property.
Earlier this month, the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved a measure that would allow eminent domain to be executed on the CarePoint Health properties.
Eisenreich’s attorney, Genova Burns Chair and Managing Partner Angelo Genova, called the move “needless as it is expensive” at the time, hinting towards litigation if the process moved forward.
