“Gina [Verdibello] and Lorenzo [Richardson] have been good additions to the school board during their tenure, while no elected officials are perfect, both have been receptive to constituent concerns and issues,” Gilmore said in a statement.

“Monique Andrews, a parent advocate, has always supported families around educational issues. Together I believe they make a good team that will put Jersey City residents first.”

The trio is seeking three, three-year terms to the volunteer board in two weeks, where their main competition will be the “Education Matters” slate backed by the Jersey City Education Association.

Thus far, the team of Police Det. Dejon Morris, Dr. George Blount, and Alpa Patel have received endorsements from Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), County Register Jeff Dublin, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, and Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera.

Additionally, Children First has the backing of former Board President Gerald Lyons, ex-Trustee Marilyn Roman, also a former acting mayor, and the Jersey City Para-Professional Association.

Further complicating the race is the presence of three independent candidates: Renes Cruz, who was unceremoniously removed from the Education Matters team after failing to submit 10 valid signatures on the first try, “Sam” Sumit Salia, and Janette Scafidi.
