“Driver of vehicle 1 stated while traveling Northbound on Palisade Ave, vehicle 1 was in the middle of the intersection of Palisade Ave and NJ-139 during a red light. Due to being in an unsafe position, vehicle 1 activated his emergency lights to continue through the intersection,” the report, signed by North District Sgt. Joseph Chidichimo says.

“It was at this time vehicle 2 struck vehicle 1 causing damage to the rear bumper of vehicle
1. Driver of vehicle 2 stated, while traveling Westbound on upper NJ-139. When passing the intersection of Palisade Ave and upper NJ-139, vehicle 2 struck vehicle 1 causing damage to the front passenger side bumper, hood, passenger side headlight and the front passenger side fender to vehicle 2.”

The report continues that the other driver, a 35-year-old Jersey City resident, acknowledged seeing the emergency lights, but was unable to come to a complete stop in time before striking the city vehicle driver by Jersey City Police Officer Gilberto Rivera.

Chidichimo responded to the scene and accident investigator responded to photograph both vehicles. Additionally, no injuries were reported and therefore both parties refused medical attention on scene.

“As is standard procedure any time a city vehicle is involved in a motor vehicle accident, the JCPD Traffic Safety Unit is conducting a follow up investigating to review the incident and determine next steps,” noted city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

This is the second time a vehicle where Fulop was passenger was involved in an accident in a little over a month: an E-scooterist was issued a summons for riding on the sidewalk and striking an SUV the mayor was riding in on July 13th.

  1. Amazing this mayor is a magnet for accidents. So convenient so they can show drivers are dangerous. Ohhhh but Murphy let all the undocumenteds get drivers licenses and now you don’t need a social security number to get a car loan. What did you expect?
