Tyest Bryant, 53, of Jersey City, is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, a third-degree crime, Suarez said in a statement.

She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released on a summons pending her first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 15th.

The investigation found that Bryant, in her capacity as a resident board member for the Booker T. Washington Housing Complex, misused over $20,000 of funds for personal benefit between 2017 and 2022.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit with the investigation and arrest.
