A Jersey City man pulled a knife on Bayonne Walmart employees after stealing an undisclosed number of steaks, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Steven Felton, 61, of Jersey City, is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, Amato said in a statement.

Felton was taken into custody on Thursday, April 18th at approximately 7:45 p.m. hours from the area of 22nd Street and Route 440.

Officers responded to Walmart on a report of an armed robbery. While en route, a description of the actor, later identified as Felton, was broadcast to all responding officers.

According to the victims, loss prevention officers, Felton was observed placing steaks into his backpack in an effort to shoplift them. As Felton exited the store, loss prevention officers approached him with their observations and demanded the merchandise back.

Felton became combative and uncooperative, using a knife to attempt to slash the arms of the loss prevention officers but was unsuccessful.

Felton then left the store with the merchandise but was immediately located and detained by officers in the area of 22nd Street and Route 440.

During the police investigation, the knife was observed and recovered from the immediate area of where Felton was being detained.

Felton was placed under arrest after being positively identified as the robber and the search incident to his arrest led to the recovery of the steaks from his backpack and narcotic paraphernalia, authorities said.
