Jersey City man charged with murder related to Heights triple shooting in April

A Jersey City man has been charged with murder related to a triple shooting that occurred on Central Avenue in the Heights back in April, authorities said.

Darren Estevez, 20, of Jersey City, is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

He was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, June 23rd, by members of the Orlando Police Department on an unrelated matter. Estevez is being held as a Fugitive from Justice at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.

During the early phases of the investigation, members of the HCPO Homicide Unit arrested Aaliyah Rivera, 23, of Jersey City. She is charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.

Rivera was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on April 24th and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds and both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.

A 30-year-old Jersey City woman was treated for a non-life threatening injury and a third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City man, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.
