A Jersey City man charged with fatally shooting his wife in January 2023 was sentenced to 25 years in state prison by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez yesterday.

Lucus Cooper, 41, of Jersey City, previously pled guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of Temara King, which occurred on January 24th, 2023.
The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act. The State was represented by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Jim Felix.
Shortly after 7 a.m. on January 24th, 2023, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired on the third floor of 340 Bergen Ave.
Upon arrival, responding officers located a female victim – later identified as Temara King, 35, of Jersey City – with apparent gunshot wound(s).
She was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m.
King was a teacher at Public School No. 5 and a GoFundMe page raised nearly $33,000 to go towards a college fund for her daughter.
